OUR STORY · FIELD NOTE 01
A lifelong pursuit, transformed by sunlight.
Forest Ranch Roasters began with a child’s first improbable cup and matured through decades of experimentation—open pans, improvised equipment, chemistry, ecology and an insistence that coffee could taste more vividly alive.

PLATE 01 · COFFEE, SUN & SIERRA
01 / THE FIRST CUP
A taste that became a pursuit.
In 1981, a nearly five-year-old coffee seeker persuaded an adult to reach the community dispenser and fill a small cup. What followed was not a straight path to roasting, but a lifelong investigation into aroma, sweetness, fruit and structure.
02 / THE EXPERIMENT
Beyond smoke and char.
Early roasting experiments moved from an open pan in a smoke-filled kitchen to a grill and rotisserie, then toward a system capable of repeatable heat and precise profiles. The objective was never to reproduce a generic dark roast; it was to reveal what each coffee already contained.
03 / THE TRANSFORMATION
Electric precision, powered by our sun.
Today, an all-electric Bellwether roaster converts carefully programmed heat, airflow and time into small-batch profiles. Electricity from our solar panels helps move each roast from green seed to aromatic expression without burning fossil gas at the roaster.
